2021 in rear view mirror – Appendix I

This post covers the following three categories:
– Supreme Court & Politics
– Corporation and Labor
– Money & Economy

Supreme Court & Politics
The 9-member Supreme court flexed its
conservative muscle, again and again
Thanks to 6-3 majority, courtesy Trump
Attempts to appear “apolitical”-  in vain

This is a gift that will keep on giving
For years to come, thanks to lifetime
appointments and no accountability
Age wise, new Justices are in their prime

Results of gutting the Voting Rights Act
by the Supreme court in plain view
Targeted States working perniciously
Enacting “Jim Crow” laws anew

2000 census results came out – giving
State legislators once a decade opportunity
to “gerrymander” district boundaries
Thanks to Supreme Court, with impunity

Census drove gain in Texas’ clout
as it gained one more congressional seat
One more arrow in GOP’s quiver to
To take Democrat’s down in defeat

GOP’s slide towards a voodoo party
full of QAnons/wackos continued
Unwilling to discern right from wrong
At all costs, worship of Trump pursued

At the other end of Red/Blue divide,
Democrats’ political naivete on full display
Stuck in endless debate within own party
Foolishly wanting to “build Rome in one day

Money & Economy
Thanks to the trillions of dollars of
newly printed money by the Feds,
and large spending by Congress
inflation is rearing its ugly heads

Are we headed to a repeat of the
70’s with double digit “Great” inflation?
If we are, better prepare for less rosy times
as Fed’s tightening may induce a deflation

Crypto entered the common lexicon
in 2020 along with NFT and Meta
This means it is time to sell, not buy
lest your punch bowl may get empty

Corporation and Labor
Unionization efforts succeeding after a
long and steady decline in union’s might
Even Starbucks baristas elected to unionize
Workers of all stripes waging the same fight

Amazon used every trick in the book of
how to defeat” unionization drive
Sad to see an ultra-rich corporation fight
labor’s thirst to more than just survive

Corporations’ march to Texas from California
continued in a chase for more profit
Little concern for Texas’ racial & social policies
Worship at the altar of $ without any discomfit

Many workers left job market for good and/or
changed line of work, Post Covid-19
2021 saw increase in workers’ power
Going back to old jobs, not very keen.
