Let’s savor, it’s the dawn of a new day
What’s good in America is on full display
Our 4-year long nightmare is finally over
Civility, humility and decency returns today

Science will take its place again in our decisions
Facts will not be “manufactured” to fit our narrative
People will not be silenced for speaking the truth
Telling the truth will be our paramount imperative

Experts will not be kneecapped or ridiculed
Their expertise will be sought and rewarded
Public health policies will not be bent to politics
Inconvenient data will not be discarded

Justice department will not be treated as doing
only President’s bidding or parroting his propaganda
Their independence will be restored sans interference
White House will not be setting their agenda

People will not be denigrated for doing their jobs
Truth will be the foundation of our communication
Free press will be given its due place in our democracy
What will be missing – disinformation and misinformation

We will show our allies with our actions that
they can again count on our words and our support
We will resolve our disagreements amicably
We will rebuild mutual respect and rapport

We are a diverse nation; diversity is our strength
The new administration will reflect this diversity
Diversity by race, religion, sexual orientation, age
We will mirror the full spectrum of humanity

It is not that we won’t make mistakes
To err is to be human and we are human
We won’t sweep these under the rug
Nor would we run from them; they won’t be spun

Our enemies should not interpret our civility
as a sign of weakness or lack of resolve
It actually shows strength of our character
Determination to defend our interests will not dissolve

Loyalty will be earned by doing the right thing
for the country, not for any single individual
People will not be fired willy-nilly on whims
Our approach will be procedural not casual

Our path will not be straight or easy
We will encounter our share of obstacles
Working together with a common purpose
pulling each other up, we will reach the pinnacle

(Oops, I forgot to remove the rose-colored glasses!)

Now for the cold hard truth

We are a deeply divided and tribalized nation
Republicans will oppose this administration
the same way they opposed Obama’s
Their eyes are already on the mid-term election

The division in the country will not go away
Republicans will not allow Democrats’ to win
Democrat’s grip on power is fragile and
Their majority in the two chambers is razor thin

Trumpism will survive without President Trump
The belief that “election was stolen from Trump”
will continue to motivate and rile the “Trumpists”
They just can’t or won’t get over this hump!

2022 mid-term elections can’t come too soon!
