I am a Republican Senator
I voted to not convict Trump
Voting to affirm impeachment
would harm me on the stump

Democrats’ case is irrefutable
I know right from wrong
Trump did incite insurrection
Evidence for conviction is strong

I know what is the right thing to do
I am not an ideologue or fanatic
I care for our democracy and rule of law
My inherent values are not anti-democratic

Alas, I don’t know how to get reelected
after having done the right thing
My position as a senator is lucrative
Losing it will forever sting

For my YES vote
there is no antidote
NO vote keeps me afloat
Let me not sugarcoat!
