This Mother’s Day is unlike others in living memory
The year-long lock-down took a toll on mothers
Mothers did double or triple duties, unabated
Worked day and nights, taking no breathers

A mother’s job was difficult even before Covid-19
During the lockdown, it turned impossible
Tending to kids and husbands 24×7, cooped up in the house
“keeping all the balls in air” became totally implausible

To mothers with jobs outside of the house,
We commend you; hats off to your resiliency
Watching over kids while working remotely
was a test of your patience and persistency

Even when fathers were home working remotely
Mothers ended up bearing most of the burden
Educating kids got added to the plate already full
Personal time got short shrifted and overridden

Single working moms deserve special commendation
With no in-school instruction, only remote learning
Finding childcare during school hours where
kids continue their education became despairing

Millions of jobs were lost during the lockdown
Mothers paid an unusually high price due to recession
Child care challenges led many to quit the labor force
The recession should really be called SHEcession

Mothers longed to hug away from home kids
Zoom is not a substitute for touch and feel
Finally, this year family will be able to
gather around a table and partake in meal

Superman, Batman, Spiderman, et el. –
Each one is a fictional hero
They can’t hold a candle to Moms
Moms do real work at ground zero!
They deserve to be called Super Moms

To all the mothers, enjoy your special day
You have toiled hard over the last year
You have sacrificed your health and wellbeing
Now is the time to savor and cheer!

What will the world be without mothers?
An arid desert devoid of lush and thriving life.

So let’s raise a toast to all mothers – Cheers!
