A Code Red report from IPCC (August 2021)
We have known our planet is warming
We have also known what is causing it
So, what’s new in the latest IPCC report?
– It is the most direct and explicit
Where we are today is no surprise
IPCC predicted it 30 years ago
The reason – carbon intensive habits
none of us wants to forgo
Those who agree with the premise that
climate is changing and we are responsible
Don’t need another report from IPCC
to lay out the case & point out the inevitable
Those who dismiss the premise and call it a hoax
will not be persuaded by yet another report
No amount of science will make them
change their ways, rhetoric and comport
Even those who agree with the premise
are not willing to change their ways
They are hoping that others will change
and spare them of the need to reappraise
I have a simple test for those who
want action on the climate front
If they can answer in the affirmative,
then the challenge society can confront
Test: In order to reduce your carbon footprint, are you willing to :
– drive less? (or give up SUV, or buy an electric car)
– fly less? (but don’t offset it with driving more)
– reduce consumption of heavy carbon footprint foods? (beef; imported items from far out places*)
– downsize the house and reduce use of a/c and heating?
– Install solar panels even if it doesn’t result in financial savings?
If you answered at least 3 of 5 questions
in the affirmative, you appear to be serious
Now get on with the task and do your part
If not, then you are just one of the deleterious
Talk is cheap!
Actions speak louder that talk!
If you mean well, you must walk the talk.
I am not holding my breath!
Nostradamus predicts: We will repeat our mock shock and faux indignation when the next IPCC report is released.
Until then que sera sera whatever will be will be…..
I was going to end with, God Save the Planet.
But I wonder if even God can save the planet now ☹☹
*Examples of high carbon footprint food imports:
Trader Joe’s : frozen vegetables from Belgium; frozen grilled vegetables & frozen pizza from Italy; frozen salmon dish from France with salmon first exported to France from Alaska, frozen naan from India etc. etc.
Out of season fruits : citrus from Australia, berries from Chile/Peru, all kinds of produce from Mexico, etc. etc.
