A Thank You letter from Coronavirus and the gang – Letter #5
Ah, I love the Fall weather
Life is moving back indoors
Leaves changing color before dropping
Temperatures falling outdoors
I know it has been a long slog
We first met in late winter/early spring
I was an “unknown” living being then
But now, about me, you know everything
You felt you had vanquished me
Infections were down, and so were deaths
Preventive measures against me were working
Health care workers were catching their breaths
I was feeling a bit “down”, lately
Worrying my best days may be behind
Everyone would know by now what to do
No one would be flying blind
Then I got news from an old “friend”
that HE and his cohorts got infected
flaunting the norms, HE literally Invited me,
the aura of invincibility no more projected
This news felt like a ton of bricks hit my spikes
I thought now HE would change his tune
HE would stress the seriousness of the threat
Telling HIS cohorts no one is immune
I feared HE might even support masks
and the practice of social distancing,
may no longer host “super spreader” events
might even curb in person politicking
I am relieved that my fears were unfounded
HE was and will remain a role model to emulate
for those who flaunt public heath norms,
follow misguided policies and play with their fate
HE is even more emboldened by his fast recovery
Now telling his countrymen, to not fear this virus
I have beaten it and so can you
Live you life, don’t be fearful and nervous
We are fortunate for your “leadership”
You prioritize politics over science
This allows us a freer hand to do our job
To boot, you even sell pseudo-science!
So hats off to you, Mr. President
You are an inspiration to billions of us
We thank you from every strand of my RNA
Knowing you has certainly been a definite plus
We wish you the very best in the upcoming election
We rather have you back in the White House
than to see “sleepy Joe” take over from you
In you, we see a lion, in Sleepy Joe just a mouse.
You have been the single most important person
in the success we have enjoyed in your country
With you back at the helm, we are sure
to set a new record in winter by our infantry
We know that a vaccine will emerge one day
And our natural tendencies will be thwarted
But, the day of “herd” immunity is still far off
Till then we will continue doing the job we started
Count of my victims is accelerating worldwide
Covid-19 fatigue has set in, prudence is gone
With winter fast approaching, I am doubling down
A reinvigorated Covid-19 season is set to dawn
I sincerely believe our best days are yet to come
Winter is the ideal time for us to feast on you
Packed indoors like sardines in a can
and having to deal with my cousin, the regular flu
A message to mankind (I do have a heart; hearts come in different shapes!)
Don’t lull yourself in a false sense of victory
Even as you “conquer” over my strain
A new more virulent cousin of mine is sure to
emerge and cause more misery and pain.
My whole family will be back to give our thanks at Thanksgiving holiday of yours.
Happy to say, by then, we would have made personal introductions to millions more.
Until we meet again, Ciao.
