Father’s day, masquerading as an important day
It knows, cannot hold a candle against Mother’s Day
A Dad does not get the same level of respect,
nor does he have the same cache!

When things are humming, no one thinks of Dads
But when a car will not start, or one is locked out
panic calls and pleas for help go out to Dads
Then he becomes persona grata, no doubt

Usually, when something is named after someone,
it is a sign of respect and admiration
Alas, such is not the case with Dads
The moniker – “Dad joke” is almost a derogation!

Dad is the handyman, Mr. Fix it
He is the tackler of the “honey do” list
The “honey do” jar is always full, since
he is “jack of all trades”, not a specialist

Dads are expected to have all the answers
regardless of the subject matter
If they do not know, they “wing” it
Or else their reputation will fall in tatter

He gets it from all sides – boss, wife, and the kids
He cannot catch a break; he is made fun of instead

Mothers get roses and breakfasts in bed
They are escorted to fancy dinners
Dads, on the other hand, get lame gifts
Tie/cologne? Heaven forbid, a set of spanners?

Dads have accepted their lots in life
Keep peaceful existence, avoid strife
Remain in the shadow of their wife
This is the only way to survive!

Dads are not allowed to be sentimental
They cannot show their true feelings
They may be crying inside, but outside
they need to stay stoic in their dealings

Fathers know Fathers know best
They keep toiling, not asking for rest
Not being appreciated, they do not detest
Family is job one, certainly they will attest

So, let us raise a glass in the honor
of this underappreciated soul
He takes refuge in sports programming
The prized show being the Super Bowl.
