A homage to George Floyd
George, I have never met you, still
Your untimely death saddens me
While the “System” brutally sucked life out of you,
Beyond their control, your soul has set itself free
My emotions span the gamut
Like many colors of the rainbow
The Police bestiality makes me angry and disgusted
Your pain & suffering leaves me full of sorrow
I can only imagine the pain
your family must be feeling
If it is any consolation, in sadness
the whole country is now reeling
While no one can undo the heinous act
It matters much as to how WE react
WE won’t let your death go in vain
To prevent a repeat, new laws WE must enact
The 8min 46sec of torture must have
felt to you as if it lasted for eternity
The barbaric act of the Police shows
human kind’s capacity for unspeakable cruelty
Please don’t blame your self for what befell on you
Blame the System for not treating you as a human
Whites enslaved your fore fathers and mothers
Their claim “all men are created equal” is a mere illusion
You died a martyr in the cause of equality,
fairness, justice and basic human dignity,
Our generation has taken the baton now
Vowing to stop the Police from acting with impunity
Your death has spawned a revolution
against Police’s unchecked and unshackled power
It has unleashed the energy of the civil rights era
Any one in its path, it will devour
You have transcended to a better place
May your soul rest in peace and grace
May WE derive strength from your sacrifice
May your family and friends find lasting solace
Amen!
